                    Employee of the Month

My name is Nora Elder and I have been a housekeeper with Hennis Care Centre of Bolivar for the past five years. I have lived in Bolivar for the past ten years and I am originally form Canton. I have a son, Shawn, 32.

I like my job because I get satisfaction from knowing that I did my best. I wanted to do this kind of work because cleaning and having a clean place for the residents to live, makes a difference, to them and to me. To work in long-term care you need to have patience and understanding. The advice I would give a new employee is to have a lot of love in your heart.

My favorite memory is when I was lucky enough to go to Mexico with my family. My outstanding life experience would have to be being a mother. My hobbies are walking and reading. My favorite quote is "Never take life for granted". I am known for being easygoing. If I could change one thing in the world it would be to end the pain and suffering.

My name is Diane Davis and I have been an LPN for 31 years. I have worked at Hennis Care of Bolivar for 8 years. I live in Bolivar but was born in Minnesota. I have 4 children: Nina, 41; Brenda, 39; James, 38; and Sandra, 37. I have 12 grandchildren. I lost my husband 2 ½ years ago. My favorite thing about working is meeting new people and their families. I have always wanted to be a nurse. When I graduated I went into the service because they promised to put me through school, but I ended up working in data control. It was interesting, but not my thing. I went back to school when I was discharged from the service. I think anyone wanting to work in a health care field should be very caring, loving and have lots of patience because when we don’t feel good, we aren’t the best company. I think anyone working in this field should put themselves in their patient’s place for a day to see how it feels. Then they would know how to care for people better. My most favorite memory is the vacation with my husband and family to the Caribbean, walking on the beaches and watching the ocean and birds. I think the best thing in my life are my children and grandchildren and sharing their experiences. I keep busy with crafts, shopping, gardening and swimming in the summer. My best advice is never to give up. Keep trying because it will get better with time and when one door closes another opens. Most people know me as the crazy girl who never wears a coat to work. I think my most favorite thing to do is travel with friends to different places and be there for anyone who is lost and needs a friend because everyone needs a friend to care for them in good times and bad times.
