Bolivar    Bolivar
Jamie Skelly   Kathleen Higl

My name is Jamie Skelly and I am an LPN.                               I am a Unit Manager in Training on the Rehab                    and I am studying for my RN.   I have been                        with Hennis Care Centre of Bolivar for four                     years.   I live in Beach City with my husband                      Eric and our two sons, Dakota, 11, and                         Braxton, 6.

I enjoy my job because I know that our "team"                makes a difference for the better, every day,                           in peoples’ lives-physically, mentally,                        emotionally and psychologically.   I have                          never wanted to be anything but a nurse.                                  I love helping people to increase or                                      maintain as much independence as possible.                            To work in a skilled long term care facility,                                I feel you must have compassion, sympathy                               and good writing skills. My advice to a new                            caregiver would be to treat every resident                                  as if they were your mother or father.

I don’t have one specific favorite memory.                                My family has made lots of wonderful                                memories.   My outstanding life experience                        was graduating from LPN school and now                                 to be working towards my RN degree.                               When I’m not at work or school, all my                            energy and time goes to my family.

My favorite quote is "It is what it is".    I                      sometimes need to remind myself that                                         there are situations or people that I can’t                          change (It is what it is), but I can change                            how I respond to those situations or people.                             If I could change one thing in the world I                                would change the way that people treat                             each other.   The world would be a much                             better place if we were just kinder to each                                 other.

My name is Kathleen Higl, I am a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.   I have worked with Hennis Care Centre ~ Bolivar for the past six years.   I currently live right in Bolivar.   I was born in Cleveland and grew up in Strongsville, where I met my husband, Ben, while attending high school.   Ben and I have three children; two daughters, Lauren, age 20,   a recent graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, Olivia, age 16, a junior at Tusky Valley High School, and a 12-year old son, Sam, a student    at Tusky Valley Middle School.

I really enjoy meeting new patients and residents at Hennis.   Everyone has a story to tell. It is so interesting and ever changing.   In my 30s I chose to work in Occupational   Therapy because I decided I wanted to be in a profession where I felt I was doing something good for people on a one-on-one basis.   I think it is important to be a little selfless when working in a health care facility.   It can be demanding and requires patience.   A good piece of advice I would have for a health care worker is that the patient/resident is the boss. We work for them.

I have a lot of memories throughout my life   but my most recent favorite was my family’s trip to Niagara Falls last summer.   An old favorite is fishing with my dad on the edge of the Rocky River. Graduating from college, at   the age of 35, with my husband, children, parents, and friends attending was a great outstanding life experience for me.   I couldn’t believe I did it!

I like to spend my spare time cleaning up after my kids, just kidding! I spend a lot of time   being a spectator at my kids’ sporting events.     I also like to kayak and bike with my family   and LOVE to cook.   I like to say "What goes around comes around," so I always try to be careful what I sent out there.

One thing I would like to do in my lifetime is travel to Prague, Czechoslovakia and Budapest, Hungary with my family while traveling down the Danube River, after I win the lottery!

Ruby Mayo

STNA ~ Dover

My name is Ruby Mayo.  I have worked as an STNA for over a year now.  Currently living in Strasburg, Ohio, I am originally from the Philippines.  I am happily married to Todd Mayo, and we are blessed with two boys; Ryan is 3 years old, and Ian is 4 months.

What I enjoy about my job is that I can give my understanding, care, patience, and love.  Plus, I get to work with dedicated, caring, jolly and friendly co-workers.  What motivated me to enter this line of work is my experience when I was a kid and almost lost my life.  The care and the love I received from the nursing staff made me realize how important their role is in the life of their patients.  To be a good worker in a care facility, a person should have the passion, the TLC (tender, loving and caring attitude) and skills in promoting health and wellness.

For those that are new in this job, I advise you to always carry your smile because it sparks one’s heart, maintain cleanliness, and lastly, reach out, bless your resident with your caring and loving touch.  Let them know and feel that you can be a friend that is willing to listen to their concerns and help provide their needs.

Talking about a favorite memory…I have too many to mention.  I once saw heaven in my dream, times spent with family and friends, my wedding, immigration to the US, birth of my kids, my first job which is at Hennis Care Centre and many more.

Finishing college is my favorite outstanding life experience. Thanks to my parents!  I look forward to furthering my ambition to furnish my requirements for RN.

Some of my favorite activities are singing, dancing, watching movies, and spending time with my family, which includes communicating with my parents, sisters and brothers in the Philippines.  My husband and I like outdoor activities like fishing, camping and site seeing.  We also enjoy our freshwater aquariums.

“Live life to the fullest” and “Thank God for everything” are the two quotes I remind myself of.  Having God in my life makes me stronger in facing life’s challenges.  If there is one thing in the world I can do, it would be promoting unity, peace and love.
