My name is Judy May and I have been a Housekeeper with Hennis for 18 months. I live on Slingluff Avenue in Dover at the present but am originally from Beach City, Ohio. When Jenny called me into her office to tell me I was chosen Employee of the Month, I was both surprised and honored to have been selected. My husband's name is Willie. We have been married 21 years. He is a long distance truck driver. We have four children, Patrick (32), Peggy (30), Willie (26), and Chris (24). The births of my children is my favorite memory. Going to truck driving school is my favorite outstanding life experience. I have worked in the health care field since I was 16 years old. I really enjoy trying to bring some happiness into the residents' lives. The qualities I think a person should have to work in a health care facility are to be patient and kindhearted. If I could give someone advice in this area, to someone new to this type of work, I would say listen to the residents. We can learn a lot from them. Spending time with my family, camping, gardening and reading are some of my favorite interests. I feel I am a strong person and I do enjoy showing kindness to others. If I could do one thing in the world, it would be to make sure no child would go hungry. My favorite saying that I try to follow in life is "Don't work how people judge you, your family and friends know how you are".

My name is Janine Lauer and I am a licensed practical nurse. I have been working here at Hennis Health Care Centre for 4 years. I live in rural New Philadelphia. I am originally from Harrison County, an area between Jewett and Hopedale. I have been married for twenty years (in June) to a wonderful man by the name Scott. We have one child by the name Isaac. He is eighteen and will be graduating from New Philadelphia High School and Buckeye Career Center. He has been a real joy to both of us. I only wish he had not grown so fast. What I enjoy about my job is the care of the residents. Being able to take some time to get to know who they are, making their stay relaxing, warm and having a few laughs. There, too, are many nice things we can learn from the older generation, so I think the giving of our time to them is valuable. What motivated me to enter this line of work is my mother and mother-in-law are LPN’s. I also have two sisters that are nurses. The fact that I lost my grandparents at a young age, being able to share in the life of older ones is a real joy for me. Qualities I think a person should have to work in a care facility are kindness, a hearing ear, patience and compassion. Advice I would give to a new personnel would be, give a hearing ear, always show kindness, take your time if you can in giving care this will make the resident relax and not be anxious. Always have a smile on and speak to everyone, if that is just saying hello. My favorite memory is all the happy times with family and friends. My favorite outstanding life experience is being with my family in Mexico and seeing the breath-taking creation that is this beautiful earth. My interest are reading the Bible and trying to follow the direction given in it. Working outdoors, gardening and working with firewood. Just taking time to walk in the woods and enjoying all the wonderful surroundings. My favorite quote is from the Bible at Isaiah 48:17, 18. This is what the Lord says your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea. Another saying I think is always practical was from my husband’s grandmother. . . "the money in your own pocket, determines what you can do." Something I am known for is making a good desert. If there were one thing in the world I could do, it would be by my own life course I could have a positive effect on someone for the good. |
My name is Crystal O’Connor and I am a Physical Therapist. I joined Hennis in December 2007 and became full time in April 2008. I live in Tuscarawas and I am originally from Strasburg. My husband Mike and I are expecting our first child in September! I enjoy my job because it gives me the opportunity to work with such wonderful, caring people. I love the Hennis “culture” of caring. I always wanted to work in the healthcare field and after volunteering in high school I realized I wanted to be a physical therapist and be a part of the process of helping someone improve his or her function and quality of life. To work in a care facility it helps to have compassion, a sense of humor, and a team approach to providing care. My advice to new personnel would be to come to work each day with a willingness to learn from your peers as well as the residents. My favorite memory is my wedding day; I can still remember every detail! I would have said graduating with my doctorate in physical therapy would be my outstanding life experience, but now it would have to be to see the heartbeat on an ultrasound of my first child. I enjoy taking walks with my husband and dog, Lily, everyday, practicing Yoga, and teaching. My favorite quote is “Be the change you want to see in the world” Mahatma Gandhi. I am known for my positive attitude. If there were one thing in the world I could do, it would be to get over my fear of flying.
